Terrorism Discussion of the threats posed by The international

International terrorism can be termed as the biggest evil facing the international community at present. It is posing a serious security challenge to many states. Since the 1980s, international terrorism has been severely restricting humanity's ability to face the challenge of the forces of violence, bloodshed, destruction and death. It severely affects/limits the resources and power of countries which are facing terrorism coming from other countries, cross-border terrorism i.e. terrorism which has its roots and base in a particular state but which is carrying out terrorist activities in a neighbouring country or in some other country. International terrorism, in all its forms, tries to achieve its narrow and anti-human objectives by carrying out many terrorist and heinous acts - kidnapping innocent people, killing them, hijacking airplanes, spreading terrorism through bomb explosions and other sabotage activities. Many terrorist organizations try to fulfill their narrow and fanatical interests by pressurizing the states. Illegal trade of arms, smuggling of narcotics and racial or ethnic violence prevailing in many states, all are showing the terrible, harmful and disgusting nature of international terrorism. The most dangerous thing is that international terrorism is developing in the world for the last three decades and various terrorist groups and organizations are spreading terrorist activities in many countries by collecting money from a few countries and many means. Day by day the form of international terrorism is becoming more and more violent. That is why the issue of ending international terrorism is being considered a very important issue in the international politics of the 21st century.

                                                         New forms of terrorism

Bio-terrorism- Biological weapons are more lethal than other conventional weapons. Firstly, these bacteria are alive, so they are very effective against humans or animals. Secondly, it is very easy to collect and operate. A little bit of anthrax bacteria can be easily smuggled anywhere inside or outside the country. This condensed and dry bacteria in small quantities can be easily spread in a targeted country even through a letter envelope, whereas smuggling of chemical and nuclear weapons is extremely difficult.

Molecular terrorism- The possibility of a nuclear attack by a terrorist could not even be proved, but suddenly this illusion was dispelled after some confidential documents of the Al Qaeda organization were found. Some documents found by the soldiers of the Northern Alliance in Kabul confirm that apart from being involved in research on nuclear weapons (1-235), the Taliban were also considering a plan to misuse it by hijacking airplanes, trains, sea vessels, etc. Experts worry that terrorists could use economic or radioactive bombs against a country, or spread them in the air from a hijacked plane. In 1995, Chechen separatists caused panic by placing a canister full of dangerous nuclear and radioactive elements in a Moscow park.

Cyber terrorism- Cyber attack is used to cripple the security system of the enemy country or to snatch away all the facilities based on computer system.

Terrorists are communicating in code language using high technology. Which is almost difficult to understand. This technique is called steganography. In cyber crime, the binary code of a normal photo is changed into three basic colors- red, green and blue. The recipient of the message can receive the message through this changed language. The message can come on the computer in the language of a musical piece. Which can only be understood by the recipient of the message. Like e-mail, it is difficult to identify the sender in this, that is, it is very difficult to catch cyber crime.

Genetic terrorism- Bio terrorists can create bacteria more dangerous than anthrax by combining the available genes and viruses. In the concept of gene engineering, a disease-resistant condition is created by altering the sequence of DNA. But thanks to high technology modern laboratories are using this technology to create new dangerous disease spreading bacteria.

In one incident scientists while searching for Escherichia Coli bacteria invented a bacteria which was 32,000 times more powerful than its resistant bacteria. Later the scientist who created this bacteria, William Stemmer, destroyed his invention on the request of American Society of Microbiology.

In another incident two Australian scientists Ron Paxon and Ethan Roma discovered a bacteria similar to small pox, which was later destroyed. But these incidents prove how dangerous this technology can be if it comes in the hands of terrorists. Scientists are worried that if bacteria spread in this work then it will be difficult to find a solution to it suddenly, in such a situation we will not be able to do anything except watch the events.

                                                          Threats posed by terrorism

The origin and growth of international terrorism remains a harsh and regrettable reality of today's time. It has assumed a very horrific form and has become a major threat to international peace and security. The threats posed by international terrorism may be listed as follows, as Tara Kartha has done in one of her articles:

(1) Terrorism being a transnational activity, it has the ability to spread the germs of conflict and violence in other countries. Some areas which have no connection with the conflict otherwise get caught up in the conflict. Terrorism can cause much more massive damage in a much larger area than a conventional war.

(2) Terrorist incidents can start a conventional war without any prior warning. A particular type of terrorist incident can be used against a state as part of a well-planned conspiracy to start a war.

(3) A war can also start when the lines between terrorism and war become weak.

(4) The visible and growing links between terrorism and organized crime (terrorism and drug trafficking) are limiting the influence of state power. Terrorism does this by the use of force and organized crime by spreading corruption in the state.

(5) The warlike violent and sabotage activities involved in terrorism spread in a state and slow down the pace of development and ruin the state's economy.

(6) Terrorist groups use various ideologies, right to self-determination, national liberation struggle, independence movements, minority rights, human rights and freedom to put pressure on the state they target and become a means to increase its power and influence.

 (7) Any powerful state can use terrorist activities in a state as a basis for its intervention by calling it a threat to international peace and security.

 (8) Terrorism can pose a threat to war in any region.

All these dangers pose a grave and dreadful threat to international peace and security and such a threat is being felt today. Naturally, today the international community is working to combat this threat. Countries like India, Russia, Egypt, Algeria and now also the United States of America, which are directly facing the problem of terrorism, are working to end and control it at every level and are also getting the cooperation of many countries in this work and the United States of America is cooperating and coordinating with all the countries including India in this regard. Capturing Osama bin Laden, the main leader of international terrorism, is the main basis of their policy. At the international level also, many efforts are being made to end international terrorism.

Today, in many states and regions, organized terrorist groups and organizations are using violent and cruel means like terrorist means, killing of common citizens, violence against state security forces, suicidal violent actions, bomb blasts, kidnapping and killing of common citizens and state officials to fulfill their narrow and limited interests. By smuggling narcotics, collecting donations in the name of religion, getting financial aid from some fundamentalist religious states and dictators and by smuggling arms, these terrorist groups are collecting money and purchasing arms from illegal arms market and by using RDX and plastic explosives, they are creating fear, violence, conflict and war like conflict situations through terrorist activities.

It is unfortunate that terrorist organizations are firmly established and are carrying out their violent activities in many states today. Some international terrorist organizations are Al Qaeda (Afghanistan Pakistan region), HAMAS, Palestine region, Abu Nidal (ANO) Libya, Basque Organization (Spain), Hizbul, Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed (Pakistan), Chechen rebels (Russia), LITTE (Sri Lanka) and others. Today terrorist groups are organizing their activities in Iraq and Bangladesh too. People of all regions of the world are facing the problem of international terrorism today. The people of the United States of America experienced the terrible form of terrorism in the 21st century and today their country is working to end international terrorism but its Iraq policy has definitely made Islamic terrorism (Jihadi terrorism) more active. It is sad that some state governments have also been giving shelter, support and help to terrorism. Libya and Pakistan are such countries, although today all three are talking about cooperation to end international terrorism. The terrorist bombings in London have once again revealed the fact that any region or state in the world can become a target of terrorism, therefore it is necessary that all countries should face this international problem together through international action, only then can the end of this problem be made possible.
